HULU TERENGGANU : More than 250 Orang Asli people from Sungai Berua Orang Asli Village, here, came out simultaneously to fulfill their responsibilities as voters in the 15th General Election (GE15), today.
The Orang Asli community from the Semaq Beri tribe arrived at the polling station at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tapah here at 8.30am.
Tok Batin, Rosli Desuh, 47, said he asked them to go to the polling station early to avoid being dropped out if they did not go out in one group.
According to him, the Orang Asli community is asked to vote to elect a leader who can defend the fate of the indigenous people, besides being able to bring the voice of the Orang Asli community to the Dewan Rakyat session.
“In the last GE14, about 150 people were eligible, but in this GE15, about 100 people have increased, including 18-year-old voters,” he said when met at the polling center at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tapah here, today.
An Orang Asli resident who was met, Era Alias, 21, said that he who voted for the first time in this GE15 did not want to miss the opportunity as a voter.
“I’m also excited to be able to come vote together because before GE14 I only accompanied my family to the polling station.
“Since 7.30 in the morning, we gathered in Kampung Sungai Berua, before leaving for the polling center en masse using our respective vehicles,” he said. – MESSENGER
