IIUM prepared 50 buses to send 2,040 students home to vote

GOMBAK: A total of 50 buses have been provided by the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) to facilitate the 2,040 students of the university at the Gombak campus to return to vote throughout the state starting yesterday.

The initiative under the IIUM Return to Vote Student Ops program was initiated by the Deputy Rector’s Office (Student Development and Community Engagement) in collaboration with the Development and Student Affairs Division, the Student Union and the Malaysian Friends Club.

According to the IIUM statement, for students returning to Sabah and Sarawak, the university provides a van and three buses to send students to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

“Since yesterday, a total of 26 buses headed to Penang, Kedah, Perlis, Terengganu and Kelantan, while a van and a bus took students to KLIA to go to Sabah and Sarawak.

“Today, 24 buses headed for Melaka, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Pahang and Kelantan and the rest of the students from Sabah and Sarawak were sent to KLIA,” he said.

UIAM said that the buses are provided by the respective state governments through the joint efforts of the Native Association for each state represented by the students.

A Kulliyah Information Technology (KICT) student, Anis Syaqirah when met said that the university’s initiative to provide buses is very good to make it easier for students to go home without having to use public transport.

He who returned to Manjoi, Perak was very excited to vote for the first time without having to spend on the cost of the return trip.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Rector (Student Development and Community Engagement) of IIUM, Prof. Dr. Akmal Khuzairy Abd. Rahman said, this program is the university’s support to help students fulfill their voting responsibilities on November 19.

“Most of them are first-time voters, so with an initiative like this, it can make their journey a little easier to fulfill their responsibilities to the country,” he said. – MESSENGER
