Men who spread sedition against the Agong were arrested

SHAH ALAM: A man was arrested after uploading a seditious video protesting the power of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in the selection of a new Prime Minister candidate.

The 35-year-old local man was arrested in a raid at a house around Kajang, at about 10.30pm yesterday.

Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said, the arrest was made after he received a police report from an individual in Ampang, yesterday.

He said, the complainant was not satisfied with seeing a 15-second video uploaded by an Instagram account owner.

“The result of the video research found that the individual was not satisfied with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s statement in the Prime Minister election.

“In addition, he labeled one of the races as corrupt and incited people to hold a demonstration to protest the power of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Arjunaidi added, the suspect was remanded for three days until this Friday to assist the investigation.

“The permission to remand was obtained from the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court.

“The case is being investigated in accordance with Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said.

Therefore, he advised the public to always obey the law and respect the principles of Rukun Negara in maintaining racial harmony in this country.

“In addition, the police will not compromise with those who are found to be trying to disrupt the peace and security of the country.

“Those who are found to be doing so will be dealt with strictly according to the provisions of the law that have been set,” he said.
