PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied that he resigned as Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman and UMNO President.
In a post on Facebook, he asked any party not to make the situation worse.
“The letters circulated as follows are fake and created by irresponsible people. Please pray for the best for the current situation,” he said, today.
Earlier, a letter purported to be Ahmad Zahid’s media statement dated November 23 went viral, claiming that an emergency meeting was held attended by the main leaders of the BN component parties and the highest leadership of the coalition.
According to the letter, several decisions were reached to determine which coalition BN will support, either Perikatan Nasional (PN) or Pakatan Harapan (PH) today.
The letter also included the appointment of Ahmad Zahid as BN Chairman and UMNO President.
“I also reluctantly want to resign as BN Chairman and also UMNO President on the basis of responsibility over the heavy defeat in the 15th General Election (GE15).
“Thus, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will act as BN Chairman and also UMNO President until the UMNO elections which will be held in January 2023,” the statement read.- MESSENGER
