UMNO supports a unity government but not led by PN

KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO supports Barisan Nasional (BN) to form a unity government to ensure a stable government, but not led by Parikatan Nasional (PN).

UMNO Secretary General, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said, the matter was reached unanimously by the Supreme Council (MT) of the party which met late tonight and the decision was made after refining the details of the discussion carried out by the Barisan Nasional Consultation Committee with Perikatan Nasional, and Pakatan Harapan.

BN leaders on Monday held a meeting with PH leaders, and with the PN coalition yesterday.

“MKT unanimously decided to support and uphold the order of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he said in a statement after the UMNO MT meeting chaired by its president, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The meeting lasted over four hours at Menara Dato Onn.

BN leaders on Monday held a meeting with PH leaders, and with the PN coalition yesterday.

Ahmad said that all Umno representatives who win parliamentary seats will obey and accept any form of unity government or other form of government that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong will announce.

Previously, the PN Chairman declared that he rejected His Majesty’s suggestion that PN cooperate with PH to form a government.

The statement also mentioned that MT supports Zahid as UMNO President and leads BN as chairman.

This development follows a vote of no confidence in Zahid as BN chairman by the president of MCA, MIC, and deputy president of Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah.

Despite the insistence within UMNO itself, MT announced that it unanimously supported Zahid as president.

In addition, the UMNO General Assembly will be held on December 21-24. – MESSENGER
