Al-RAYYAN, Qatar: While the whole of Saudi Arabia was still celebrating the success of beating Argentina 2-1, it was a different story for its defender, Yasser Al-Shahrani, who had to forget about the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
This is because Yasser had to undergo surgery after suffering a serious facial injury during Saudi Arabia’s surprise win over Argentina in the Group C competition yesterday.
In the match, Yasser collapsed on the field after colliding with his goalkeeper, Mohammed Al-Owais in stoppage time and he had to be carried off on a stretcher.
He reportedly suffered a fractured jaw and facial bones following the incident.
“Yasser Al-Shahrani is receiving treatment at the National Guard Hospital in Riyadh and will undergo surgery in the near future as one of the measures taken by the medical staff to treat the injuries suffered,” said the Saudi Arabian Football Federation.
So far there has been no further statement from the management of the country’s Football Governing Body regarding the player’s participation in the next two group stage actions.-AGENCIES
