Young people see the effects of GE14, the economy is affected – Tok Mat

KUALA PILAH: Barisan Nasional (BN) has urged the party machinery to intensify its movement to support and entertain young voters in the 15th General Election (GE15) campaign which is two days away.

BN Deputy Chairman, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said, the machinery needs to remove the worry or apprehension to do so with the assumption that most young voters do not support BN.

He, who is also the BN Election Director, said that young voters are now more exposed to a lot of information and have a wide network among their age group.

“They have seen the effects of GE14 which saw the national economy affected. New investments are not coming in while old investors are pulling out.

“While young people think about their fate and future. They want to build a life but are hindered by those effects,” he told reporters after attending the Oghang Pilah Bersamo Tok Mat ceremony here today.

Also present were Kuala Pilah BN Chairman, Datuk Ismail Lasim; BN candidate for the Kuala Pilah parliamentary seat, Datuk Adnan Abu Hassan and local BN leaders.

Mohamad, who is also the BN candidate for the Rembau parliamentary seat, drew attention to the results of the Johor State Election (PRN) last February, which involved voters aged 18 and over for the first time.

At first, he added, BN was a bit worried because a total of 750,000 new voters had been registered with the majority being young people.

“But the result of the PRN was amazing because BN won in many young voter channels located in urban areas such as Permas Jaya, Larkin, Gelang Patah, Yong Peng, Air Hitam and Kluang. In the last GE14, many of our defeats were caused by young voters who did not support BN,” he explained.

According to him, the comparison between GE14 and Johor’s PRN clearly shows that young voters are not easily influenced to support parties that fail to govern efficiently and effectively.

Based on statistics from the Election Commission (SPR), a total of 1,393,549 voters aged 18 to 20 across the country will vote for the first time in GE15 this Saturday. –
